India delays implementation of cosmetics rules

On 30 March 2012, the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced that it was delaying the enactment of the Drugs and Cosmetics (fourth amendment) Rules 2010 until 1 October 2012. The announcement was made in the Gazette of India on 30 March 2012 and posted on the website of the ministry’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). The rules specify the requirements for registration and import of cosmetics in India. This is the second time that India delayed enactment of the changes. The original date for entry into force was 1 April 2011, but on 29 September 2011 this was put back to 1 April 2012. To view announcement go to: Gazette of India announcement 30 March 2012
