JRC reviews measurement requirements for implementation of EU Commission nano definition

The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) has published a report reviewing the measurement methods available that can be used to classify materials under the definition for nanomaterial adopted by the European Commission in October 2011. The report details the requirements for particle size measurement of nanomaterials based on the definition and reviews the capabilities and limitations of currently-available measurement methods. Related issues, such as the implementation of the definition through methods other than measurement or methods for the detection of specific nanomaterials are expected to be addressed in a follow up report.
