Secondary Notification Assessment Report on Carbamic Acid, N-[(butylthio)thioxomethyl]-, Butyl Ester (Chemical in Reagent S-10104 Promoter) for public comment

The National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) has published the draft secondary notification assessment of carbamic acid, N-[(butylthio)thioxomethyl]-, butyl ester (CAS No. 1001320-38-2). The chemical was declared as requiring secondary notification in the November 2014 Chemical Gazette, based on the availability of additional information relating to adverse effects of the chemical on human health. The chemical is used as a froth-generating agent in the mineral processing industry, and no new uses were identified during the secondary notification assessment. The draft secondary notification assessment report is now available for public comment. The secondary notification assessment report provides an evaluation of the relevant information pertaining to the potential human health risks that could be associated with exposure to the notified chemical. Based on the assessment findings, NICNAS is recommending that the notified chemical be listed on the Safe Work Australia Hazardous Substances Information System. A request for variation to the report may be made at this stage, using NICNAS Form 4a. Applications should clearly outline any amendment or change(s) requested. All applications for variation must identify the exact words, sentences or paragraphs in the report to be varied and then state replacement words, sentences or paragraphs. The rationale behind any request for variation must be clearly explained, with references where relevant. The statutory 28-day deadline for variation requests to be submitted to NICNAS is 30 June 2015. If you would like to meet with NICNAS to discuss the findings and conclusions of the report, please advise us as soon as possible so that the necessary arrangements can be made.
