Swedish chemicals agency reports on substances in electronic components

The Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemi) has published the results of its survey called Chemical substances in electronic components. The report, which is in Swedish with an English summary, highlights the large number of compounds used to make electronic components. Information on substances used in manufacture is not generally included in data sheets and suppliers are free to change material composition, states the report. The report concludes that it is not currently possible to find out the exact composition of a circuit board. However, circuit board manufacturers should be able to find out if components contain any banned substances. Further information is available at the Kemi website.
