On 2 May 2014, Taiwan’s EPA issued the draft amendments of the Toxic Chemical Substances Labelling and Materials Safety Data Sheet Regulations for public consultation. The final version now has been announced with no significant differences to the draft, which will come into force on 11 Dec 2014. Compared with the current version, the main amendments are as below:
- The name of the regulation, Taiwan’s Toxic Chemical Substances Labelling and Materials Safety Data Sheet Regulations, is renamed as “Toxic Chemical Substances Labelling and Safety Data Sheet Regulations”.
- To align with the Globally Harmonised System for Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), the name of “Material Safety Data Sheet” is changed to “Safety Data Sheet”.
- Since the Chinese National Standards (CNS) 15030 on Classification and Labelling of Chemicals has specified the classification and labelling requirements, containers and packaging of toxic chemical substances should comply with CNS 15030 serial national standards instead of the previous Appendix 1. As for the handling sites and facilities of toxic chemical substances, presenting hazard information in clearly visible locations should also refer to CNS 15030 serial national standards. The Appendix 1 of the current Regulation will be eliminated.
