Court judgment on the classification of anthraquinone

On 24 October the General Court issued a judgment supporting the European Commission and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in the case brought by DEZA, a.s., challenging the Commission’s decision on the classification of anthraquinone (EC 201-549-0; CAS 84-65-1) as a carcinogen, category 1B. In its judgment the General Court dismissed in its entirety the action brought by DEZA, a.s. Having regard to the objectives to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment, the Court considered that Commission and ECHA’s Committee for Risk Assessment had not erred in their assessment that the substance met the criteria for classification as carcinogen, category 1B. Further information on the judgement is available at: Judgment (currently only available in French and Czech)
