Study on analytical method for the determination of trace polychlorinated biphenyls in human hair

In this study, hair samples were incubated in 6 mol/L hydrochloric acid solution extracted with hexane/dichloromethane (4:1), purified by a multi-column and analysed for 32 polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners by gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC-MS). Concentration of hydrochloric acid and conditions for multi-column clean up were optimised. The average recoveries were 85.3%-104.9% with a relative standard deviation between 5.3% and 9.2%. Instrument detection limits and method detection limits were 0.008-0.093 ng/g and 0.18-2.12 ng/g, respectively.
